Seven kids, Tai, Sora, T.K., Matt, Izzy, Mimi, and Joe are at summer camp when out of the sky falls digivices. One moment they're at camp and the next moment they are in a strange new world. While the seven children are at File Island, they are each befriended with a small creature known as a digimon. While trying to find their way back home, the meet many different digimon. Some of then are good, others are evil, but black gears were controlling most of the evil digimon. Each child's digimon has learned to digivolved in order to destroy the black gears. They find out that the most powerful digimon, Devimon, on file island is doing this and they eventually destroy him. After destroying this digimon they meet Genai, who tells them of crests and tags which can help their digimon digivolve farther. Unfortunately they meet up with another evil, Etemon digimon which they also eventually destroy.

          The next evil digimon they meet has a different plan of taking over the world. He is Myotismon. He has seen into the future and knows of the eighth digidestined. He finds a way to the real world to destroy him. We eventually find out that it's Tai's younger sister, Kari. She was suppose to go to camp with Tai but she was sick. The digidestined get to Kari before the he does and together they destroy him.

          Now, the children have returned to find another enemy. Only this time it isn't just one, its four evil digimon who call themselves the "Dark Masters."
